Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Now a Part-Owner of the XFL, Plans to Relaunch the League

According to reports from USAToday.com, NYPost.com, ChicagoTribune.com, GlobeNewswire.com, and various other media outlets, WWE legend and Hollywood film star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is part of a group that has purchased what was formerly WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon's XFL football league.

It was reported back in April that the XFL was shutting down, seemingly for good. It was later reported that the league had filed for bankruptcy, and that Vince McMahon had announced that he had no intentions of trying to buy back the league.

Dwayne Johnson issued the following statement about his decision to make an investment in the XFL:

"The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things — my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans."

"With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football."

XFL President and Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Pollack also issued a statement:

"We are grateful for today’s outcome. This is a Hollywood ending to our sale process and it is an exciting new chapter for the league. Dwayne, Dany and Gerry are a dream team ownership group and the XFL is in the best possible hands going forward.”
