WrestlingNewsSource Staff Predicts the Wrestlemania Card

WrestlingNewsSource Staff Predicts the Wrestlemania Card

Wrestlemania is the biggest event of the year for WWE. It has been compared in its past as the “Superbowl of Professional Wrestling”.

Members of the WrestlingNewsSource.Com staff team are here to predict the 9 confirmed matches of the Wrestlemania card. Nicholas Pruner (Who does Smackdown spoilers), Rick Diamond (Listen to the newest episode of his radio show, the “Rick Diamond Show” HERE), Jack Crawford, Jeffrey Crosby, and Simon Daniel all have picked their own winners of each match. Simon was only able to do a few, but the other predicted all of the other matches. Here were the results of their predictions:

Kickoff Match: The Usos Vs. The Dudley Boyz

Nicholas: The Dudleyz should win because they’ve lost like every single match since returning. They need to be built up especially after this recent heel turn.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

Rick: The Dudley Boyz will most likely come out on top since the Usos have gotten the upper hand more often than not recently on Raw. Since this match means nothing in the long run, it truly is a toss up though.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

Jack: I thought these teams were going to be going for the tag titles in a fatal 4 way TLC match so I am a bit underwhelmed that it's only against each other, although I do think it could become a tables match. I think The Dudley Boys will probably get the win here, which is a shame as I feel as if The Usos deserve better. This match probably means the least out of any on the card and I am surprised it's not pre show material.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

Jeffrey: Honestly, I am a huge fan of the Usos. I think they are the best 2 man tag team we have seen for many years. I have a feeling this match will not stay a two on two match. One or two more teams may be added to it. Without knowing for sure it is hard to say. If they do add the other teams and make it a number one contender match for the Tag Titles it will be a little more interesting. Either way this match will probably end up being a table match. I am going to say the Usos will come out on top. They honestly need the push more than the Dudleys. Ever since the injury that put them on the back shelf they haven’t had much life. Hopefully this starts some upward momentum for the Uso Brothers.

Winners: The Usos

Simon: I'm expecting a classic here. The build might be a bit lackluster but I expect both teams to give it everything in this match. The Dudleys are so good at playing the old school villains that putting them up against The Usos at this stage is a smart move considering some of undeserved reactions they have been getting. I expect the Dudley Boys to pull out the win on the big stage and continue the feud forward.

Winners: Dudley Boyz

(The Dudley Boyz: 4, The Usos: 1)

Kickoff Match: United States Championship: Kalisto (c) Vs. Ryback

Nicholas: Ryback’s sudden heel turn was super awkward. I think personally that he’s better as a heel, so I’m kinda OK with it. I bet he wins here. Kalisto doesn’t really have much going for him (despite the WWE wanting different) other than he can fly around. That’s cool, but so can so many others on the roster and I feel the WWE is going big on Ryback after failing his heel turn a couple of years ago. This match will be pretty boring in my opinion.

Winner and NEW United States Champion: Ryback

Rick: I want to say Ryback because it seems as though he is about to receive another push, but my fingers can't bring me to predict him as the winner because Ryback would look horrendous with the United States Championship. #YouLookStupid

Winner and STILL United States Champion: Kalisto

Jack: The way Ryback has been built up recently and pretty much repackaged I think they're planning something big for him. These two had a great match on the WWE Title Tournament a few months back and looking forward to see them go at it again. There's not really been much build up to the match, but hopefully they can tell their own story in the ring.

Winner and NEW United States Champion: Ryback

Jeffrey: Well, this match has about no story. I wish this was a ladder match instead, but it’s not. I just cannot picture Ryback with the US Title. He has been noticeably improving. He seems to also be in the beginning of a push right now. I am going to say that Kalisto retains. Mainly because the WWE loves to put the US Title on people that aren’t from the US. Also, Ryback would look stupid with the US Title on his waist.

Winner and STILL United States Champion: Kalisto

Simon: I am a big fan of Kalisto but WWE, as per seems the norm at the moment, and not solidified that with decent booking. They have turned Ryback with no build and this match is a real after though. I'm going for The Big Guy in this match for no other reason than WWE seems to want to give him a big push again.

Winner and NEW United States Champion: Ryback

(Ryback: 3, Kalisto: 2)

Kickoff Match: 10 Divas Tag Team Match: Team Total Divas (Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox, & Eva Marie) Vs.  B.A.D. & Blonde (Naomi, Tamina, Lana, Emma, & Summer Rae)

Nicholas: Hey at least the females are treated like the males in the sense that they get a “get as many people on the card” match too. Naomi and Natalya deserve so much better. Paige and Emma should go back to NXT since they are getting absolutely nowhere on the main roster. Brie Bella’s probably leaving after Wrestlemania, so she doesn’t matter too much, but she’ll lose here most likely. God forbid Lana, Eva, Tamina, and Summer getting a Wrestlemania match. Those four Divas have a lot of work to do and do not deserve this match on the card. I don’t really care about this match.

Winners: Naomi, Tamina, Lana, Emma, & Summer Rae.

Rick: Eva Marie's team will win this one because whether the fans like it or not, she is the future of the Divas division. I'm hoping Nia Jax comes out during the post-match celebration and helps Eva attack all of the other Divas. Then they will go on to become the most dominant duo the Divas division has ever seen.

Winner: Team Total Divas

Jack: The finish of this match will probably involve Eva Marie for some reason. I was hoping Bayley or a legend such as Lita took up the final spot but not to be. Team Total Divas (why are they called that when there's women on the other team from total divas?) Will probably get the win here with Eva strolling in to pin someone after someone else done all the work.

Winner: Team Total Divas

Jeffrey: I don't know much about the diva's division. BAD AND BLONDE seems full of jobbers.. Not too sure.. I pick them.. Why not? I like Tamina and hate the Total Divas show.

Winners: B.A.D. AND BLONDE

Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match: Kevin Owens © Vs. Zack Ryder Vs. Stardust Vs. Dolph Ziggler Vs. Sami Zayn Vs. Sin Cara Vs. The Miz

Nicholas: Why can’t it just be Owens Vs. Zayn? Those two could put on a 5 star match on their own. The setup to this match is super confusing. What has Ryder or Stardust done to earn this match? That’s enough complaining from me. This match will be decent, and I see Owens retaining. Have him feud with Zayn alone in the future.

Winner and still Intercontinental Champion: Kevin Owens

Rick: Ziggler could possibly win this match because he needs something to stay relevant at this point. I see a Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn feud in the future though so I am going to have to go with Zayn capturing the belt leading to a one on one match between the two when Owens uses his rematch clause. Another reason I feel Zayn will win is because Vince McMahon will think the IWC will love it...and we probably will. If Owens somehow retains, Zayn will capture the title the next night on Raw. Sami Zayn will come out of Wrestlemania weekend as the Intercontinental Champion.

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Sami Zayn

Jack: In a way, I do wish that they did just leave this at Zayn v Owens. That match would be brilliant with or without the ladder. I fail to see the point of adding Stardust, Ryder, and Sin Cara to the match. They’re hardly on TV but they just walk into a title match at Wrestlemania? This match will be fun and keep the fans happy, and I can see Zayn narrowly losing out and feuding one on one with Owens for the belt in the future.

Winner and still Intercontinental Champion: Kevin Owens

Jeffrey: Let’s be real, this is pretty much KO vs Zayn with Ziggler there to add a credible distraction with a few jobbers to take bumps. I mean seriously, I bet that Ryder, Sin Cara, Miz, and Stardust have about ⅛ of the wins as Ziggler on WWE programming this year. The biggest question is why not just let KO and Zayn put on a clinic in a 1 on 1 match. Well, I am guessing they don’t want to blow out every other match on the card. People already hate the main event as it is. I am going to say Zayn for the win. My reasoning is that KO will feud with Zayn and what better reason for the prize fighter losing his prize and fighting for it. There will be a 1 on 1 match, but unfortunately it will not be at Wrestlemania. Not this year, anyway.

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Sami Zayn

Simon: It's just like WWE to waste the opportunity of a solid one on one encounter between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in order to have as many people on the card as possible. I do get that, they want to make this the "big" Wrestlemania but I really feel WWE have missed a step not pushing the emotionally charged Zayn/Owens feud.

Winner: Kevin Owens because the match barely even matters.

(Kevin Owens: 3, Sami Zayn: 2)

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Confirmed Entries: Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Heath Slater, Adam Rose, Big Show, Kane, Tyler Breeze, Goldust, R-Truth, Darren Young, Mark Henry, Konnor, Viktor, Jack Swagger, Fandango, and Damien Sandow

Nicholas: If I didn’t enjoy multi-person matches, I wouldn’t care about this match at all. What has winning this match done for Big Show or Cesaro? Nothing. I doubt that changes this year unless WWE follows the original rumored plans of having Braun Strowman win and receive a huge push afterwards, which I’m not that excited about. At least he’s not facing Undertaker!

Winner: Braun Strowman

Rick: I’m not excited about this match at all. There are other ways for legends who have passed away to be remembered. The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is only used to ensure everyone on the WWE roster is included in the biggest show of the year. With that being said, I believe Kane will win this year’s installment because of the message he sent to Big Show and the Social Outcasts on the March 21 edition of RAW.

Winner: Kane

Jack: Can’t say I’m looking forward to this one, and it’s pretty clear WWE aren’t too bothered about it either given the fact it’s been relegated to the pre show. Hopefully there will be a few NXT guys involved, like Itami last year but I think Strowman will win this and they’ll pretend it actually means something.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Jeffrey: If you haven’t earned a spot on a Wrestlemania card FEAR NOT! There is always room for you on the illustrious Andre the Giant Battle Royal. The fact that it is on the pre show this year pretty much says it all. I’m not sure how many people are going to be in it, but at least the Social Outcasts will be there. Besides them we only have Kane and Big Show as “officially entered”. I’m guessing there will be some Wyatt Family members there. Strowman is a favorite, but I have to go with Kane. It is the last thing he will probably ever have a real chance to win for the rest of his career.

Winner: Kane

Simon: Another "Get as many bodies on the card" match. Judging from RAW, we are going to get the usual Big Show is a threat to win segments. I'm expecting the Wyatt Family to have a very good showing in this match and maybe even team up to ensure one of their own win. I'm hoping to see a few nice surprises in this match and maybe even a Cesaro return.

Winner: Braun Strowman

(Braun Strowman: 3, Kane: 2)

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Divas Championship: Charlotte © (with Ric Flair) Vs. Becky Lynch Vs. Sasha Banks

Nicholas: These three women are not DIVAS, they are WOMEN. These three ladies can go when needed, and this Wrestlemania needs a Women’s match to shine. Gives these three women 10+ minutes and they’ll prove that they are the best of the best. I wouldn’t mind any of them walking away with the title. Charlotte has grown so much as a heel and has gotten a lot better overall with her wrestling skills, which were already on par from NXT. Seeing Sasha Banks winning the title would be a cool site too. Becky Lynch still feels like a background performer to me as she’s seemed since the “Divas Revolution”, but I still respect Lynch and like her a lot too, but I don’t see her winning at all. Charlotte has held the title for a long time, and I could see the big feel good moment of Banks getting the title, and I will not complain one bit at all.

Winner and NEW Divas Champion: Sasha Banks

Rick: Sasha Banks will be the next Divas Champion because she is clearly the greatest woman ever to step in the ring. I don’t think WWE will be able to resist having a #BOSS as the champ.

Winner and NEW Divas Champion: The #LegitCHAMPION Sasha Banks

Jack: I hate to be that guy who says he looks forward to the divas match most on a wrestling card, but this is definitely one of the few I'm properly excited for. All 3 of these women are brilliant workers and given time they will knock it out the park. I think the match could go 2 ways, Charlotte wins by pinning Becky and Sasha wants a rematch because she wasn't pinned, or The Boss takes home the title. I'm routing for the latter.

Winner and NEW Divas Champion: Sasha Banks

Jeffrey: I rather not even predict this match. Every time a “Divas” match comes on I either go to the bathroom or grab some chow. I don’t follow the Divas Division at all. I am going to say Charlotte will win just because she is the champion (I think) and she’s pretty good (from what I have seen.)

Winner and STILL Divas Champion: Charlotte

(Sasha Banks: 3, Charlotte: 1)

4-on-3 Handicap Match: The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, & Xavier Woods) vs the League of Nations (Bad News Barrett, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, & Rusev

NOTE: These predictions were made while the match was still for the tag titles, but the gist is still the same.

Nicholas: I love the New Day. Everything they do is so funny and entertaining, and I feel as if they would lose all of their steam if they lost here. However, we could see a serious side of the stable that could be good until they could finally beat the LON which they can then go back to being goofy. The LON has done nothing really since forming, and need the win, so I’ll give it to them.

Winners: The League of Nations

Rick: After The League of Nations brutally assaulted The New Day on Raw, they gained some credibility as the smash mouth, old school stable they are supposed to be. With that being said, The New Day is the hottest thing going in the WWE right now and #NewDayRocks. At the end of the day though, New Day can survive as a team without the victory...I'm not sure The League of Booty can.

Winners: The League of Nations

Jack: Like the other tag match, this underwhelms me slightly. The New Day are amazing. Whilst their face turn hasn't worked out completely the way WWE wanted it to in my opinion, they are getting cheered more than usual. I never would have turned them face. I'm still not so sure on the League of Nations. They just don't excite me at all. I know it's awhile away, but is Barrett not leaving in the Summer? Doesn't make much sense to me to put the title on someone who's on their way out. I'll go for a New Day victory, then they come out the next night and boast about how they've beat everyone only for Enzo and Cass to make their main roster debut and feud with the New Day. Face(ish) v Face but who cares. Whatever happens, Enzo and Cass will be making an appearance on the Raw after Mania. Maybe with the Dudleys instead? Who knows. Anyway,

Winners: The New Day

Jeffrey: This should be the most interesting match of the night. I guess the traditional tag team matches are going extinct. The way I see it the League of Nations are a strong heel faction. They do outnumber the New Day. Can the recently face turned new day overcome the odds? I don’t see it happening. We all know that Barrett is on his way out the door. He is a great talent and the powers at be may be trying to sway him to stay with some championship gold. Plus, if the Usos win and are named number one contenders then they will need some heels to face for the Titles. I have a feeling the New Day will be faces for a while.

Winners: League of Nations

(The League of Nations: 3, The New Day: 1)

A.J. Styles Vs. Chris Jericho

Nicholas: This is one of the matches I’m actually excited about on this otherwise lackluster card. Chris Jericho has spent the better part of four years returning and leaving over and over again, but when he returns each time, it’s to put someone over huge in a feud. First it was Dolph Ziggler around Summerslam 2012, then it was Fandango at Wrestlemania 29, then Bray Wyatt in 2014, then the Wyatt Family, especially Braun Strowman at Night of Champions 2015, and now it’s AJ Styles’ turn. Styles will win. I doubt they want to give Jericho the win here. Have AJ win the first match for Jericho to receive his “Payback” at the Payback Pay-Per-View on May 1st for Styles to win the tiebreaker at Extreme Rules on May 22nd. Give these two 20 minutes and they will put on a classic.

Winner: A.J. Styles

Rick: I feel like AJ Styles will win this one because he does deserve a WrestleMania win even though he hasn't learned to wrestle the WWE way yet. I feel like this feud will continue on until Extreme Rules so Y2J could get himself disqualified or counted out.

Winner: AJ Styles

Jack: This is the biggest lock of the night for me. Hopefully AJ will use the Styles Clash to win, although Jericho has kicked out of it before. I just hope that AJ doesn't turn out like the last guy Jericho put over at Mania!

Winner: AJ Styles

Jeffrey: This will be a good match. I know that Jericho is a big name jobber.. If he jobbed to Fandango at Wrestlemania I'm sure he will job to AJ Styles. Jericho literally has nothing to gain with a win.

Winner: AJ Styles

(AJ Styles: 4)

No Holds Barred Street Fight: Dean Ambrose Vs. Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)

Nicholas: This is definitely the match I’m most excited about at Wrestlemania. These two brawlers will get around 20 minutes and just brawl everywhere in Arlington and it will be awesome. I don’t care who wins. I personally think Ambrose needs the win more, since he’s barely won half of his Pay-Per-View matches since the Shield split, and I think he will use the weapons given to him by Mick Foley and Terry Funk.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Rick: The Dean Ambrose story will be remembered very closely to that of Daniel Bryan's without the WWE Championship involved. Ambrose will be beaten to a bloody pulp, but he won't give up. Eventually Ambrose will use the weapons that were gifted to him by the hardcore legends and get the win.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Jack: This is probably going to steal the show. Lesnar will dominate the match but Ambrose will keep going and use his new toys. Maybe Foley and Co. will help him out? Not too sure of Lesnar's schedule post mania but if he's not sticking around it makes sense to give Ambrose the win. Although, Ambrose will still get huge reactions even if he loses. Tough one to call. Loads of massive spots, suplexes and broken tables will do me please. Oh, and fire.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Jeffrey: This one should be good. This won’t be a technical masterpiece, but there will be a few suplexes. This will be physical and full of huge spots and false finishes. I know that these two will do Wrestlemania justice. I always felt that Ambrose was the perfect opponent for Brock because even if he loses he will still be over. I can’t really think of anything that would make the WWE Universe go against Ambrose at this point. Even if Brock destroys Ambrose he will still be over because; well, he’s Brock Lesnar. I have Lesnar winning this one. I feel like they booked Ambrose in this match because he has the least to lose by losing.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

(Dean Ambrose: 2, Brock Lesnar: 2)

Hell in a Cell Match for Control of Monday Night RAW and Undertaker’s Retirement from Wrestlemania (Both if Shane McMahon Win): Shane McMahon Vs. The Undertaker

Nicholas: I love Shane McMahon. I love watching his old matches on the WWE Network and I have enough faith in him that he’ll be able to do a big spot during this match that will be remembered like some of his old spots. There should be something that’ll even make Mick Foley go “HOLY SHIT!!!” I am holding out for Shane to win so he can gain control of RAW while the Authority maintain Smackdown and we see the return of the Brand Split. I think that after this year Undertaker will be done or very close to it, so I don’t think him retiring at Wrestlemania really means much. He’ll be in the Hall of Fame next year. That’ll be amazing. Only reasons why I want Shane to win.

Winner: Shane McMahon

Rick: Undertaker's last ride will be at WrestleMania 32 in what will be one of his greatest matches of all time. Age doesn't matter in this case because as we've seen, these two are in excellent shape. I am confident that Shane is still ready, willing and able to perform the hardcore stunts that his matches have relied on in the past or he wouldn't have returned in the first place. Stephanie and Triple H will run SmackDown leading to the return of the WWE Draft.

Winner: Shane McMahon

Jack: I think this will close WrestleMania. It's going to be overbooked to hell and I can't wait. I think it's more of a matter of who won't turn up - Cena? Stone Cold? PUNK? I'm certain Shane will be up to his usual massive stunts given the fact they've been showing them on Raw the past few weeks. Taker v Shane is a mismatch but adding in the cell is a game changer. I'd love Shane to win but can Undertaker really lose again at Mania? To a businessman who only returned last month, no less? If Taker loses, can't Shane just bring him back the next night given the fact he's now in charge? The whole thing has been booked poorly and I'm struggling to make sense of some it still. Will Taker just lie down and drop Shane's lifeless body over him for the good of the company? Then again, if Taker wins, what's even the point? Everything will stay the same. Whatever happens, please let this be the end of the authority angle. Please.

Winner: Shane McMahon (with lots and lots of help).

Jeffrey: This is the one where I am going to go on a huge ledge here… We all know that Cena is not competing at Wrestlemania. He will be there though, but in what capacity? Will he come out and praise the US Champion Kalisto and/or hype up the US Title match? Probaby. That may not be the extent of his involvement. Let me try to break this down the best I can: John Cena doesn’t have a long time left in his career. He wants to turn heel, but what’s the point? Everyone who likes him will hate him, but everyone who hates him will like him. That is unless there was something so devastating and tragic he could do that will make EVERY wrestling fan hate him… Like interfering in the Hell in a Cell and costing Shane the match and our hopes and dreams of a brand split. We all want Smackdown! to be relevant again. We all want a draft. We all want the championships to be prestigious again. We want Shane to win and “save the WWE.” This is the only and last chance John Cena has to turn heel in his career. He can flip again before he retires because.. well, he’s John Cena. I know this is so far out in the stratosphere that it is past improbable and very near to impossible, but that is my prediction.

Winner: Undertaker

(Shane McMahon: 3, Undertaker: 1)

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Triple H (with Stephanie McMahon) © Vs. Roman Reigns

Nicholas: I know that Vince is sitting in the backstage area hoping that the reaction Reigns gets will be like the one that Rollins got last year or what Bryan got at Wrestlemania 30. Spoiler: It won’t be. The crowd at Arlington will boo the hell out of the show if it ends off with Roman holding up the title to fireworks. That can’t happen. I guarantee that people will stop watching if so. The people have been trying to show for months that they don’t want Reigns at the top. Please turn him heel or make him upper-midcard. Do something different. Still, he’s going to win, and we’re going to have to deal with it.

Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Roman Reigns (And I’m going to start cutting my wrists Monday Morning)

Rick: In a main event that will exceed all expectations, Roman Reigns will come out on top. This storyline has been great so far and it will be even better when Roman Reigns follows in The Rock's footsteps and steals the show at WrestleMania. Hopefully The Rock will help Reigns win and then we see Reigns spear Rocky setting up a match between the two for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Roman Reigns

Jack: Surely they can't go off the air with Reigns lifting the title to a chorus of boos (unless he turns heel of course, but that's for later). I'm struggling to see where the 'WrestleMania moment' comes from in this match. The last 2 years we've seen Bryan and Rollins which have been superb, somehow I feel as if this won't be as good. Another poor storyline for me given the fact that it's been so predictable this is going to be the Title match for months on end. If Reigns wins, who's to say he won't just get the title stripped from him again like he already has? He's already won the belt twice. If he was going for his first title I might care a little bit but unfortunately I don't. The best scenario is Reigns winning (*shudder*), Ambrose and Rock coming down to celebrate with him and he takes them both out. What I think we will see, is Reigns winning clean and Rock coming down to Rock Bottom HHH and set up a match for Mania next year. Sigh.

Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Roman Reigns

Jeffrey: This main event is the worst in recent memory. No one really cares about this match. Triple H has been trying to get heat, but he is still more over than Roman Reigns will ever be. I feel like the HIAC match will be full of run ins and the authority’s help will be depleted and severely limited. I have Roman Reigns winning clean over Triple H. Unfortunately, there is no Seth Rollins with a briefcase to save us this year.

Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Roman Reigns

(Roman Reigns: 4, Triple H: 0)
