[WNS Column] The Hydden View: Ziggler vs. Cesaro What You May Not See

Going into “Hell in A Cell” there is no question that the most anticipated match was Ambrose vs. Rollins, and in my opinion it delivered, even if you don’t agree with the finish these two put on a  show. The other match on the card that I felt could be a show stealer was Ziggler vs. Cesaro. These two wrestlers can make anyone look good, so to think they wouldn’t have a five star match would be crazy, but we didn’t get that.

The match we saw at HIAC wasn’t bad; it was actually the fourth best match on the show (in my opinion). I just expected more and most certainly didn’t expect Ziggler to win in two straight falls. Cesaro and Ziggler are two of the most over wrestlers in WWE, Ziggler always getting a great reaction from the fans. Cesaro is also loved by the fans, there wanting to cheer him not boo him. After the match you heard allot of grumblings about how Cesaro is being buried and not used right. Even the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin showing his support for Cesaro.

I thought about this for awhile, I actually was going to write about something else today, but this was sticking with me. Did we see Cesaro get buried as much as we saw Ziggler get put over? Think about that for a second, as fans were always so quick to point out the negative, we fail sometimes to see the positive. I am among those that feel Cesaro is just too talented to not be a top guy someday, I also see him as having too much heart to let that happen. Let’s not forget the man that came to Cesaros defense yesterday was once named “The Ringmaster”. Cesaro is going to be ok even after being squashed by Ambrose, let’s face it Ambrose needs to look violent and crazy couldn’t exactly have him attack and destroy Hornswoggle.

All the time you hear fans complain about the secondary titles not being respected, hell I even wrote about that last week. Ziggler is the Intercontinental Champion, a champion that we all cheer for and is very talented. He should not be put in matches where he loses against Rusev or a bigger opponent just to beat Cesaro or the Miz at the next PPV. I personally feel he needs to be built up as star, and be groomed for the next level. I think that’s what we saw at HIAC and at the end of RAW last night. First he won his Feud with the Miz while overcoming the ever entertaining Mizdow being at ringside. Then he convincingly wins his match at HIAC with Cesaro. This showed me they were pointing him in the right direction. Then at the end of Raw before every wrestler and make-up artist came running to the ring, Ziggler was the first one to run to Cenas side. In my opinion they are positioning him for a huge baby face run.

I do not think Cesaro has been forgotten though, I just think WWE is trying to find the right time to turn his character, so he is cheered not jeered. This is not the right time to do that though, with Ryback returning as a baby face last night, and Orton’s turn to bay face already in progress he would get lost in the shuffle.

I for one am going trust WWE, I am going to have faith they turn both Ziggler and Cesaro into stars. So in closing let’s not look at their HIAC match as Cesaro getting buried, but Ziggler getting a push that he deserves.
