The Wrestling Observer is reporting that top WWE officials were reportedly aware that Roman Reigns had violated the company's Wellness Policy for the first time prior to this past Sunday's Money in the Bank event, which serves as an indication that this is what led to Reigns dropping the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that night.
Bryan Alvarez noted on the Wrestling Observer Radio program that since this was apparently the situation before the announcement for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match at the upcoming Battleground event was made on Monday night's edition of Raw, that match is still expected to go on as planned, with Reigns taking part alongside Seth Rollins and current titleholder Dean Ambrose. Battleground is not scheduled to take place until July 24th, and Reigns' 30-day suspension is slated to end on July 21st, meaning he would still be able to take part in the event unless WWE makes some kind of alternative plan.
While Reigns is still highly likely to take part in the Battleground main event, his suspension means that he will obviously not be taking part in the upcoming WWE Brand Extension Draft when SmackDown goes live on July 19th. Current reports indicate that Reigns and John Cena are both slated to be the top stars for each brand, so it will be interesting to see how Reigns' pick is handled at the time due to his suspension.
As expected, Reigns was not at Tuesday night's SmackDown television taping in Tucson, Arizona.
